Recently, I read an article by “Spyder” entitled “ A Visit From My Friend -Dealing with nighttime blood sugar crashes”. The depth of vulnerability of his story article inspired me to visit a similar space and begin a draft of my story. It is now time to share.

Grace and Mercy — Choking Survival

Have you ever choked on something and actually stopped breathing. When I was in the 1st grade I stayed after school to help my favorite teacher. I went to the bathroom and had a lifesaver in my mouth. I don’t recall how but I remember swallowing it and gasping for breath as I was choking on it. No one heard me — the teacher didn’t look for me but I survived. Another incident as an adult happened on our way to church. I was rushing around being wife and mother and eating some grits (basically ground corn). I felt it when it hit my windpipe — a very tiny particle landed on it and closed my windpipe. I gasped for air and started trying to cough. Miraculously my windpipe opened again. Needless to say that to this day I am very mindful of small candy and grainy — stringy food. There’s something spiritual in all of this to be studied and told in another story -another time.

Sleep apnea is totally different.
